On Monday 28th February I signed a joint letter to the Prime Minister urging the Government to provide as much support as possible to our European partners who are currently the first safe havens for Ukrainian refugees and for Ministers to seek a flexible and pragmatic approach to those Ukrainians wishing to seek temporary refuge here in the UK.
You can read the full letter below.
The crisis in Ukraine is fast moving and the Government is constantly reviewing necessary sanctions and actions of support.
The following changes have been made so far to help Ukrainians wishing to come to the UK:
- Application fees waived.
- Visas fast-tracked.
- Where family members of British nationals do not meet the usual eligibility criteria (changes to language requirements and salary thresholds), entry is being granted for 12 months.
- As well as immediate family members, British nationals and people of any nationality settled in the UK will be supported to bring parents, grandparents, adult children and siblings to the UK.
- Ukrainians with temporary employment visas have had their visas extended to at least 31st December 2022 if they cannot return to the Ukraine due to the crisis.
