My question to the Farming Minister, Mark Spencer MP, about encouraging more young farmers to keep farming as part of his statement on the Rock review which has provided recommendations about supporting tenant farmers.
I was chuffed to mention the brilliant Kaleb Cooper of Clarkson’s farm, to get him into the Hansard records following his visit to No10 last week.
My fellow MPs also raised concerns about helping farmers keep farming in connection with land being bought up for carbon offsetting and massive solar farms. This is something I have raised before. I have also raised concerns about business rates and the unintended consequences of diversification, which farmers have been encouraged to do.
I was disappointed that not a single backbench Labour MP turned up to ask questions or praise farmers, especially given the worldwide pressure on food security.
