It was brilliant to join community volunteers to take part in an Easter litter pick in the town centre.
Having had many local people contact me raising the issue of littering and fly tipping that plagues our area, I gathered public-spirited citizens to join me in collecting 80kg of rubbish from between Waitrose to the railway station. We collected a wide variety of items including Nitrous Oxide or laughing gas canisters.
There was a brilliant selection of people on patrol, including: Chloe Turner from Gloucestershire County Council and Stroud District Council, Katherine McNealy from Woodchester Parish Council, James Miller from Plastic Free, Les Richards a volunteer from the Canal River Trust, Sophie Chappel from the Life's a Beach charity and Eric Torrington from Litter Free Stroud and Truckers Cleaning Up Britain
This litter pick is the start of my upcoming campaign to tackle litter louts. I will be working with organisations like the county council, National Trust, Plastic Free, Litter Free Stroud and local businesses to systematically tackle this issue so please keep your eyes peeled for more coming soon!
