I am so proud to be the MP for Stroud. Throughout this week I have been flooded with hundreds of emails from constituents expressing their support for the Afghan people and so many offering donations and help for families when they arrive here in the UK.
I have been speaking to and working with multiple constituents who have family, friends and colleagues currently in Afghanistan - I am committed to supporting those fleeing from peril and will continue to try to get them safely away from the danger they face. They must have our help.
Gloucestershire Action For Refugees and Asylum Seekers (GARAS) is working in partnership with the Home Office, Gloucestershire County Council and Stroud District Council to assist housing Afghans through the Government's settlement schemes. All work being done is hugely commendable and I am proud that the community are coming together on this issue.
I will be raising any roadblocks we have in the constituency with Ministers throughout the coming weeks to make sure that we are doing all we can in this time of crisis.
