It is bonkers that the childcare Universal Credit offer is only used by 13% of parents because the system is so poor. I have been working hard with Onward, the DWP Select Committee and pestering the government to see this changed and I will be continuing to campaign for this in the run up to the Spring Budget next week.
The Sun have been running a brilliant campaign called ‘Make Universal Credit Work’ which has called for childcare money to be paid to parents on benefits upfront so that they can afford to move into a job.
This comes alongside Save the Children’s new polling which shows that a staggering 54% of mums with young children have had to say no to taking on more hours at work due to childcare costs.
